Part 1 for All Disciplines January 14, 2021 3:00pm-5:30pm (2.5 CCUs/.25 CEUs)
Part 1: Live Webinar Stage-Specific Rehabilitation for Patients with Neurocognitive Impairments
Course Overview: During this 2 ½ hour course, participants will engage in small group activities, discussion, lecture, and case studies to examine the impact of neurocognitive impairments on the rehabilitation process and daily functioning of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Participants will identify the remaining abilities and challenges of persons in all stages of dementia and identify effective stage-specific intervention approaches. Participants will learn effective techniques for managing the behavioral and communication challenges common to each stage of dementia.
Part 2: Self Study – must be completed by January 27th, 2021 – Instructions will be sent via email after registration closes.
Part 2: Self-Study Abilities Care Assessment – Self Study is accessed through (LMS) Learning Management System Pre/Posttest are required. 3 hours of self-study must be completed prior to Part 3:
Course Overview: During this Self-Study course participants will gain skills and knowledge used during the evaluative phase of the Abilities Care Approach process. Participants will learn to administer and score the Large Allen Cognitive Level Screen – Version 5 (LACLS-5), the Routine Task Inventory – Expanded (RTI-E), the Functional Assessment Staging Tool (FAST) and assessments from the Allen Diagnostic Module (ADM-2). Participants will also learn to obtain a thorough occupational profile through the collection of information about person-centered factors, and to assess environmental factors for clients with dementia living in a skilled nursing facility.

Part 3: Live Webinar Enhancing Communication and Quality of Life for Patients with Dementia
Live Webinar Part 1 and Self-study Part 2 must have been completed prior to Part 3 Live Webinar
**This will be 3 different WebX trainings broken out based on discipline
Course Overview: During this two-hour workshop participants will engage in small group activities, discussion, lecture, and case studies as they identify the remaining abilities and communication challenges of patients in all stages of dementia. Participants will develop knowledge and competence in the administration and scoring of the FLCI and other cognitive assessments to guide the development of effective intervention approaches based on a stage-specific approach to dementia treatment planning. Participants will receive specific training on the major elements of the Abilities Care Approach(R) including life storyboards, adapted communication approaches, sensory strategies, the communication of pain protocol, in order to create effective functional maintenance programs (FMPs) for clients with dementia who live in long-term care communities. Interactive activities throughout the workshop provide opportunities to practice the use of skilled language and documentation associated with the Abilities Care Approach®.
