This course is designed for All PT/PTA/OT/COTA to provide intermediate knowledge in the treatment of Persons with Parkinson’s Disease (PwPD). As the care providers tasked with improving function, cognition and quality of life in the Allied Health field, therapists must be able to successfully assess and/or treat the PwPD incorporating evidence based treatments and assisting the patient in the establishment of disease-long practices that will promote maintaining their highest level of function.
Instructor: Cheri Prince, DPT is a Physical Therapist and Director of PDWELL in Omaha, NE. She received her Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from Creighton University in 1999. Her clinical interests lie in the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease and she holds certifications in LSVT BIG, PWR! (Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery), and has completed the Allied Team Training for Parkinson’s through the Parkinson’s Foundation. She has presented locally and nationally on both the use of dual task training for PD as well as freezing of gait (FOG). She has been instrumental in the development of an interdisciplinary PD programming including Parkinson’s specific inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation as well as community resources including a monthly PD support group and 3 community exercise classes: LOUD Crowd, PD Power and Fitness and Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson’s.
